How to study in Australia quickly adapt to the local life

To study in Australia, we should first understand the Australian culture and local customs. Australia is a diversified country, and the Australian people are easygoing, simple and easy to get along with. The following are some tips for you to quickly adapt to the local life in Australia.

There are considerable differences between Australian culture and Chinese culture. As mentioned above, Chinese culture is used to being humble, while Australian culture is more honest.

If you want to understand Australian culture and get familiar with their life, you can start from small things, such as paying attention to the popular Australian TV series, books, the food Australians love, getting to know famous actors and singers, etc. You can actively enter the mainstream circle of the local people in Australia, and you will be influenced by the Australian culture.

It not only enriches my overseas study life, but also reduces the distance between me and the local people in Australia.

As the saying goes, rely on your parents at home and friends when you go out.

If you want to integrate into local life, the most direct way is to make more Australian friends.

The Australian people are cheerful and enthusiastic. We should also learn to do as the Romans do. Let go of the traditional shyness of Asia and chat, eat and go shopping with them cheerfully and enthusiastically, as well as participate in various popular parties.

While chatting with indigenous people, I improved my oral expression ability imperceptibly, and my English level rose straight up.

The meaning of studying abroad is not only to learn knowledge, but also to broaden our horizons and truly experience diverse cultures.

If you hold the idea of worshiping foreign things during this overseas study trip, there will be no substantial change. But if you hold the heart of taking the essence and discarding the dross to learn and communicate, you will be well integrated into the circle of local people, and they will also feel your sincerity and strength.

First, lay a good foundation of English, dare to speak Australia is a Commonwealth country, universities are all English teaching, good language ability is very important for students to adapt to the new learning and living environment.

Many Chinese students learn “mute English” and are not good at oral communication, which is very disadvantageous. They should be brave to speak.

According to a survey, more than half of Chinese students didn’t practice English after class, and about 35% of Australia’s instructor, said Chinese students English level is not enough, can’t well understand the course content, and Chinese students in the class is used to communicate in Chinese, which is very unfavorable to improve my English.

Therefore, Chinese students should try to lay a good English foundation before going abroad, and at the same time, they should speak more to improve their English ability.

After arriving in Australia, I should speak more in class and communicate with students from other countries in English. After class, I should also study and practice more and communicate with local people without worrying about making mistakes.

Students don’t have to worry too much about the language. Although there will be some difficulties in the beginning, most students can adapt to it in a short time.

If you don’t understand something in class, you can record it with the teacher’s permission and go back to study slowly.

As mentioned above, many students have good English scores and high IELTS scores, but they need to adapt to it for a period of time after they first start to study in Australia. There may be some content in class that they do not understand. This is normal and there is no need to be too anxious.

To solve this problem, students must prepare well before class, pay attention in class, and give some responses when appropriate.

In addition, it is necessary to focus on the practice of daily communication language, which can help students in their daily life more smoothly.

Because there is always some uncertainty in spoken communication, for example, there will be many specific expressions, you can’t understand the meaning of others without knowing.

If you meet other Chinese students overseas, you will definitely feel very friendly. It is common for Chinese students to “gather together”, which is unfavorable for students to improve their English level and integrate into the Australian society. The first thing students should do is to get out of the comfort zone of Chinese.

Studying in Australia is not just about getting a diploma. It’s more about getting exposed to different cultures, changing your mindset and expanding your network.

It is normal to communicate with Chinese students, but if you spend all your time abroad with other Chinese students, then studying abroad will lose its significance.
