Finland is now outsourcing the handling of visa and residence permit applications in Japan. The job will be done by an application centre run by VFS Global. Starting from 27th March, the application centre will receive residence permit applications. Visa applications will be accepted from 15th April.
All people applying must go to the application centre in person. This is so they can be identified and provide biometric identifier information. Only those with an appointment will be served for both visa and residence permit applications.
For residence permit applications, people can fill out the forms online at https://migri.fi/enter – finland (Link to another website.). But the application centre also accepts paper applications. The Finnish Immigration Service will still process all residence permit applications.
For visa applications, the forms can be filled online at https://finlandvisa.fi/ (Link to another website.). The Finnish embassy in Japan will continue to process these visa applications.
The embassy will take care of the residence permit appointments that were already made until 26th March. For visa appointments, it will handle them until 9th April.
Besides the regular visa or residence permit application fee, the application centre will charge applicants a service fee of 20 euros or the equivalent amount in Japanese yen.
