HÀ NỘI – Minister of Public Security Lương Tam Quang has asked the UK to make it easier for Vietnamese citizens to live, work, and study legally in the UK. He said this is a key way to stop illegal migration.
The request came during a meeting in Hà Nội on Tuesday. The Vietnamese Minister met with Simon Ridley, the Permanent Secretary of the UK Home Office. They talked about improving cooperation in security, immigration, and efforts to fight human trafficking.
General Quang welcomed Ridley and the UK group. He was happy with the results of the third Việt Nam – UK Migration Dialogue. The dialogue happened earlier that day between the Vietnamese Ministry and the UK Home Office.
General Quang said, “The dialogue helps us share ideas about things we both care about. We can explain our positions on new problems and find ways to work together. This will make our countries’ strategic partnership stronger.”
He told both sides to turn the dialogue results into real actions. They should also move forward with the cooperation documents they signed. These include MoUs on fighting human trafficking, sharing immigration data, and migration issues, as well as a joint statement from the dialogue.
General Quang also pushed for more exchanges at all levels. He especially wanted more exchanges among experts. They could share knowledge about fighting human trafficking and illegal migration.
He suggested that Vietnam and the UK work together to investigate networks that make fake asylum claims. These networks use trafficking victims to make money. General Quang said the people behind these crimes should be punished.
He also emphasized expanding cooperation with the UK Home Office in some areas. These areas include dealing with high – tech crime, financial crimes, money laundering, and passport counterfeiting.
In reply, Ridley thanked General Quang for the kind welcome. He praised the growing close partnership between the two ministries. He especially mentioned their good teamwork during the dialogue earlier that day.
Ridley said the UK Home Office is committed to working closely with the Vietnamese Ministry. They will carry out the signed agreements. He also said the UK is ready to increase cooperation in areas where the UK has expertise. — VNS
