On February 26, 2025, Vassilis Maragos, the Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, met with Armenia’s Minister of Interior, Arpie Sargsyan. This meeting came after the first EU expert mission visited the country.
During the meeting, they looked at how far they’ve come with visa liberalisation. They also planned the next steps before the second assessment mission, the Schengen mission.
According to Armenpress, the EU Ambassador was happy with the efforts and results so far. He said the cooperation between the EU and Armenia has been very good. He hopes to keep seeing progress and the effective carrying out of reforms.
Minister Sargsyan was also pleased with the cooperation between the two sides. He thanked the EU for helping with the ongoing reforms in the Ministry of Interior and its related departments.
Besides that, the EU Ambassador and Minister Sargsyan talked about new joint plans. They set the direction for their cooperation in visa liberalisation and said they’d keep working hard.
Visa liberalisation is a big deal for Armenia. With this agreement, Armenian passport holders will be able to travel to the Schengen Area without a visa. But before Armenia can get this agreement, it has to meet certain conditions and make reforms based on the EU’s suggestions.
