NEW DELHI – On Thursday, the UK government started the ‘Visa Fraud Ton Bacho’ campaign. The goal is to protect Indian citizens from the physical, financial, and emotional dangers of visa fraud and illegal migration.
The campaign has a new WhatsApp support line (+91 70652 51380). It offers help in English and Punjabi. The line helps people spot common visa scam tricks. It also gives those who want to legally travel to the UK access to official advice.
The campaign was launched at the Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Jalandhar. Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal, the LPU Chancellor and a Member of Parliament from Rajya Sabha, was there.
Along with the WhatsApp line, the campaign will point out the warning signs of visa scams. People will be told to watch out for false claims. These include promises of jobs in the UK, saying no English – language tests (like IELTS) are needed, and asking for really high fees.
Visa fraud causes a lot of debt that people shouldn’t have to deal with. It also puts people in danger of getting hurt and being taken advantage of. If someone is caught committing visa fraud, they could be banned from traveling to the UK for 10 years.
Under the Mobility and Migration Partnership Agreement, the UK and India are both committed to fighting illegal migration. This campaign is another part of their joint efforts to step up the fight against illegal migration and visa fraud.
Christina Scott, the British Deputy High Commissioner to India, said, “There are more chances than ever for people to visit, study, and work in the UK. Indian nationals get the most UK visit and work visas. But young people’s dreams are being used against them. Too many are becoming victims of visa fraud. That’s why we’re starting the Visa Fraud Ton Bacho campaign. The campaign wants to make people aware of the risks and help them learn about safe and legal ways to get to the UK.”
