On February 27, 2025, in Ottawa, as Russia’s unlawful invasion of Ukraine keeps going, Canada stays dedicated to helping Ukrainians and their family members who found a temporary safe place in Canada.
Today, the Honourable Marc Miller, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, declared that Ukrainians and their family members who came to Canada under the Canada – Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) on or before March 31, 2024, now have until March 31, 2026. They can apply for a new open work permit that’s valid for up to three years, renew an existing work permit, or apply for a new study permit. Standard fees apply. Those who want to renew their status as a visitor or student can still apply for renewal as they did before.
These temporary steps will let Ukrainians and their family members keep working and studying in Canada during this tough time. Eventually, they can go back home when it’s safe.
All Ukrainian temporary residents and their family members in Canada can get free settlement services until March 31, 2025.
Canada will keep looking at how its immigration programs can best assist people affected by the war in Ukraine.
