Forty Chinese nationals involved in illegal immigration were repatriated from Thailand on Thursday as part of a bilateral effort to combat human smuggling, according to China’s Ministry of Public Security.
These individuals, deceived by criminal groups, had illegally left China and became stranded in Thailand, a ministry official explained. Their families, who had been repeatedly requesting their return, were relieved by the repatriation.
The repatriation was carried out in accordance with both countries’ domestic laws, international law, and common practice, ensuring the protection of the individuals’ rights throughout the process, the official said.
Furthermore, China is committed to providing medical care for one of the repatriated individuals who fell seriously ill while detained in Thailand.
“This repatriation demonstrates China’s unwavering commitment to human rights and its determination to protect the well-being of its citizens,” the official added.
China and Thailand have cooperated in fighting human smuggling, leading to successful joint efforts in addressing telecommunications and cyberspace fraud. The two nations plan to expand their law enforcement collaboration to further safeguard regional security.
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Lin Jian, expressed strong opposition to human smuggling, emphasizing that illegal immigration and human trafficking are internationally recognized crimes. Lin reaffirmed China’s ongoing crackdown on such activities and its commitment to holding those responsible accountable, as well as working with other nations to combat cross-border crimes.
