Aurora, Colorado – Federal agents conducted immigration raids in Aurora, Colorado, on Wednesday, targeting undocumented immigrants15. The operation focused on apprehending over 100 alleged members of Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang.
The raids, which involved multiple federal agencies including ICE, the FBI, DEA, ATF, and U.S. Marshals Service, took place at several apartment complexes. According to Reuters, agents were knocking on doors and appeared to be targeting anyone suspected of being in the U.S. illegally.
ICE has not released the number of individuals detained, but local media reported seeing people being escorted onto buses in handcuffs.
The Denver field office of ICE announced the operation via social media.
While officials claim the focus is on gang members, some residents assert that Tren de Aragua has infiltrated Aurora, a Denver suburb.
However, local officials have disputed the extent of the gang’s influence in the city.
The raids follow President Trump’s previous statements outlining his immigration policies in Aurora during his campaign. He had pledged to launch a national “Operation Aurora” targeting gang members.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston stated that Denver Police and city authorities were not involved and had no prior notification of the operations. Colorado Governor Jared Polis called for more transparency from the federal government regarding these actions.
The Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition reported that the raids occurred at apartment complexes, and agents were not showing warrants to residents. The group also stated that families were being prevented from leaving their homes.
