The Duolingo English Test (DET) has introduced the DETermined scholarship, aimed at supporting Indian women pursuing careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). This initiative is launched in partnership with the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA), which serves as the knowledge partner.
The scholarship offers a one-time grant of USD 30,000 to cover tuition fees for a master’s degree in STEM at a U.S. university that accepts the DET for admission for the academic year 2026-2027.
Applications for the DETermined Scholarship will open in June 2025 on the Manthan portal, with the recipient to be announced in September 2025.
To qualify, applicants must be Indian women who hold a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, demonstrate leadership in science and technology, and show a commitment to contributing to India’s global innovation landscape upon returning from their studies. They must also submit a DET score of 120, a strong academic record, and a proposal outlining their vision for innovation in STEM.
Key Features of the Scholarship:
Finalists will receive mentorship and support from STEM experts to help guide their academic and professional growth.
The selection process will include three stages: an application phase, a STEM impact proposal challenge, and a final interview.
A press release emphasized that “The DETermined Scholarship offers talented women the opportunity to pursue world-class education and return to India as innovators and changemakers.”
Taking the DET allows students to apply to over 5,500 programs worldwide, making it a valuable tool for those interested in the DETermined Scholarship and other academic opportunities.
