Pope Francis criticized US President-elect Donald Trump’s immigration policies on Sunday, calling them a “disgrace.”
Trump has pledged to deport all undocumented immigrants living in the United States and end birthright citizenship. He has also proposed sending military forces to the border to address illegal immigration.
In an interview with Italian television, Francis expressed his strong disapproval, stating that such actions would be “a disgrace.” He argued that targeting vulnerable migrants would be unfair, saying, “It would make the migrants, who have nothing, pay the unpaid bill. It doesn’t work. You don’t resolve problems this way.”
Since becoming Pope in 2013, Francis has consistently advocated for migrants’ rights. He has frequently criticized Trump’s far-right policies and has drawn criticism from extremists, some of whom have labeled him as part of the ‘woke’ movement. In 2016, Francis went as far as to suggest that Trump was “not Christian” in his views.
