The United States officially opened its consulate in Bengaluru on January 17, marking a “significant milestone” in the relationship between the two countries, according to India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar. The consulate is expected to benefit tech professionals, business visitors, and students.
While visa services are not available immediately, US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, assured that they will be introduced soon. He emphasized that the consulate will play a key role in enhancing collaboration across various fields, including commerce, science, technology, education, and culture.
At the dedication ceremony, Garcetti highlighted Bengaluru’s significance as India’s “Silicon Valley,” underscoring the growing ties between the two nations.
Jaishankar echoed this sentiment, calling the consulate’s opening a crucial step. “We understand the importance of starting visa operations here, and this will be a priority moving forward,” he said.
