BENGALURU: A new initiative aimed at making international travel smoother for Indian citizens and OCI cardholders was launched on Thursday by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who joined the event virtually from Ahmedabad.
Passengers departing from Terminal 2 of Kempegowda International Airport can now skip immigration counters by using e-gates, provided they register on an online portal managed by the Ministry of Home Affairs. According to a source at Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), this move will speed up the process for eligible travelers.
The ‘Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme’ (FTI-TTP) is now operational at major airports across the country, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad, as announced by the Press Information Bureau. This program was first introduced last year at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The process is similar to the DigiYatra system already in place at Bengaluru Airport. Passengers flying internationally must first register on the FTI-TTP portal at https://ftittp.mha.gov.in. Once registered, travelers can bypass immigration counters and proceed directly to the e-gates for quicker clearance.
The program is designed to offer a more efficient and secure immigration process, with the aim of providing world-class facilities. Initially, it will be available free of charge to Indian citizens and OCI cardholders. Biometric data will be captured either at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office or at the airport itself.
At the airport, registered passengers will scan their boarding passes at the e-gates, followed by their passports. Their biometric information will then be verified, allowing the e-gates to open automatically and granting them immigration clearance.
This initiative is part of the broader ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ vision. The program is expected to expand to 21 major airports across India.
