A Sudanese man is set to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today, January 16, 2025, after being charged with 14 counts of breaching his visa conditions.
The 38-year-old man was arrested in Melbourne by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and charged for allegedly failing to adhere to his residential curfew requirements, as mandated by his Commonwealth visa.
The man faces 14 charges under section 76C(1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth), each for not complying with his curfew. If convicted, he could face a maximum penalty of five years in prison or a fine of up to $93,900.
