AAP MLA Mohinder Goyal will appear for questioning today at 4 p.m. as part of an investigation into an alleged illegal immigration racket, Delhi Police officials confirmed. Goyal, who represents Rithala constituency, will report to the AATS South District Office.
Goyal informed the police late last night that he would attend the investigation on January 13. Police have issued two notices to him, one on Saturday and another on Sunday, summoning him to assist with the inquiry.
The case relates to a bust in December 2024, when Delhi Police arrested 11 people, including Bangladeshi nationals, for operating an illegal immigration network. The suspects were accused of forging documents such as Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and other identification through fraudulent websites.
Documents found with the immigrants reportedly bore Goyal’s signature and seal, prompting further scrutiny. Investigators also discovered materials linked to Goyal’s intermediaries, raising suspicions.
In response, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) dismissed the claims, calling them politically motivated. A party spokesperson stated, “The BJP is using false cases and state machinery to target opposition leaders as elections approach.”
Delhi Police are set to question Goyal to clarify his involvement in the case.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police has launched a two-month verification drive to identify and deport illegal immigrants following orders from Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. Over the past few days, police have arrested and deported more than 30 illegal Bangladeshi migrants. Authorities have also dismantled a gang providing fake government documents to undocumented immigrants. Four gang members, including two Bangladeshis, have been arrested.
The crackdown on illegal immigration comes ahead of Delhi’s Assembly elections, scheduled for February 5, with results to be declared on February 8.
