Asaba, September 11 — Kemien Egbekun, a scholarship recipient under the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), has achieved a remarkable academic milestone by graduating with a First Class degree in Law from Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (MCIU), Agbara-Otor, Delta State. Egbekun secured an impressive Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.77, underscoring her exceptional performance.
Dr. Charles Ariye, the Head of Education for the PAP, announced this notable achievement during a briefing in Asaba on Wednesday. Egbekun’s graduation was celebrated during the university’s 6th convocation ceremony held on September 6, 2024, marking a significant accomplishment for both the student and the scholarship program.
Additional Achievements from PAP-Sponsored Students
The success of Egbekun is complemented by the achievements of two other PAP-sponsored students, Oladapo Damilola and Toikumo Prosper, who also graduated in Law from MCIU. Both students earned Second Class Upper Division degrees, reflecting strong academic performance.
The Head of Education highlighted that Egbekun, Damilola, and Prosper are part of a growing cohort of over 60 PAP-sponsored students who have attained first-class honors in various competitive disciplines between 2016 and 2023. These disciplines include electrical/electronics engineering, civil engineering, law, and petroleum engineering, among others.
Reflection of Program Goals
Dr. Dennis Otuaro, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, expressed his satisfaction with the academic accomplishments of the PAP scholars. In a statement delivered by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Igoniko Oduma, Otuaro praised Egbekun and her peers for their outstanding achievements.
Otuaro attributed the success to the strong support from President Tinubu, whose backing has been instrumental in the positive outcomes of the PAP. “We are thrilled by the remarkable academic performances of the Presidential Amnesty Programme scholarship scheme students. Achieving first-class and second-class upper division honors is a significant academic accomplishment,” Otuaro remarked.
He emphasized that these successes are a testament to the PAP’s dedication to human capital development in the Niger Delta region and the well-conceived objectives of the scholarship program. “The academic achievements of PAP beneficiaries bring pride to the federal government, the PAP Office, their respective communities, and the region at large,” the statement read.
Encouraging Future Scholars
In closing, Otuaro encouraged current students under the PAP scholarship scheme to draw inspiration from these achievements and strive to continue the commendable academic trajectory set by their predecessors. The ongoing success of PAP-sponsored students serves as a powerful motivator for future scholars to aim for excellence and uphold the values and goals of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
The accomplishments of these students not only highlight the effectiveness of the PAP scholarship initiative but also reflect the broader impact of such programs on individual lives and regional development. As the PAP continues to support education and professional development, it remains committed to fostering academic excellence and contributing to the growth and advancement of the Niger Delta region.
