Groundbreaking Initiative at Google for Startups Campus Marks New Era for International Study Programs
In a pioneering study abroad venture, 13 students from the Nevada Global Business program at the University of Nevada, Reno collaborated with startup founders in Poland, gaining valuable insights into the entrepreneurial landscape and offering crucial guidance for companies aiming to enter the American market.
This initiative, hosted at the Google for Startups campus in Warsaw, represents a significant advancement in the study abroad experience, facilitated by a partnership between the University’s College of Business and the esteemed SGH Warsaw School of Economics.
Dr. Mehmet S. Tosun, Professor of Economics and Chief International Officer, highlighted the program’s impact, stating, “This initiative transcends traditional classroom projects, embodying a genuine real-world collaboration.”
The group included several MBA candidates with substantial business experience, which greatly contributed to the advice and support they offered to startups in Central and Eastern Europe. The students’ week-long itinerary in Poland featured lectures at SGH Warsaw, meetings with Polish governmental and financial leaders, a visit to the Bank of Poland, and an exploration of Poland’s rich cultural heritage.
Dr. Tosun expressed optimism about the future of the partnership between the Ozmen Center for Entrepreneurship and Google for Startups, suggesting potential expansion to other global locations. Google’s startup accelerators are currently situated in Madrid, São Paulo, Seoul, Tel Aviv, and Tokyo.
The Nevada Global Business program, in collaboration with Extended Studies, offers a diverse array of international study opportunities annually. This year, students are traveling to nine global destinations, including Singapore and Istanbul.
Dr. Tosun emphasized that the program is inclusive of students from various disciplines beyond business, encouraging all those interested in entrepreneurship to participate and benefit from the expansive perspectives offered through academic travel.
