Ashish Jaiswar, General Manager for India at OneStep Global, representing the University of Reading, has urged Indian students to remain optimistic about pursuing their studies in the United Kingdom despite recent fluctuations in application numbers.
According to statistics from the UK Home Office, there has been a 23% decrease in the number of Indian students applying to UK universities. However, Jaiswar suggests that this drop should be viewed in a broader context, emphasizing that the UK remains an attractive destination for international education. The country’s prestigious institutions and rich cultural environment continue to draw students from around the world.
Jaiswar attributes the decline in applications to several temporary factors. One significant reason could be the uncertainty surrounding the recent graduate visa review. However, he remains confident that the positive outcome of this review will lead to an increase in applications in the near future.
“It’s important to understand that recent events in the UK have not harmed its reputation as a welcoming and safe place for international students,” Jaiswar stated. He believes that the slight dip in numbers can be linked to temporary policy changes, global economic fluctuations, and the changing landscape of international education rather than a decline in interest.
He encouraged Indian students to maintain a positive outlook on their UK study plans. “The UK’s commitment to international education remains strong, and we expect a rebound in applications as students continue to recognize the significant value and opportunities offered by a UK education,” Jaiswar added.
Jaiswar also highlighted the enduring relationship between the UK and India, particularly in the field of education. He expressed confidence that this bond would remain strong, especially as the world continues to recover from recent global challenges.
“We look forward to welcoming even more Indian students to the UK for their educational journeys in the coming months,” Jaiswar concluded, reinforcing the message of optimism and continued collaboration between the two countries.
