LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The Coulee Region Immigration Summit, hosted by the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration (FSPA) and the Greater La Crosse Area Diversity Council (GLADC), gathered experts and community members at the La Crosse Public Library to discuss the vital role of immigrants in the region.
The event featured a panel discussion that brought together migration experts, local employers, and representatives from the Humanitarian Parole Program. They shared insights and experiences highlighting the significant economic and cultural contributions immigrants make to the Coulee Region.
Pat Ruda, treasurer of the Coulee Region Immigration Task Force, emphasized the indispensable role of immigrant labor in local industries. “If we didn’t have those folks working on the dairy farms, I’m not sure you would be getting your milk here just quick like that. It’s really important for people to realize how much culture and importance they bring to our community,” said Ruda.
The summit, which ran from 2 to 4 pm, concluded with attendees marching to Mexcal for complimentary appetizers, fostering further community engagement and discussion.
