The Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport Police in New Delhi has intensified efforts against visa and passport fraud, resulting in the apprehension of 108 fraudulent agents. These operations aim to curb illegal immigration and uphold national security.
According to recent data from the Delhi Police, the IGI Airport Police’s actions have led to a significant increase in arrests compared to previous years, reflecting a robust response to escalating fraudulent activities. Arrests have been made across several states including Punjab, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, and West Bengal.
The focus has shifted towards holding fraudulent agents accountable rather than solely targeting unwitting passengers who may unknowingly become involved in illegal immigration schemes. This strategic approach has yielded substantial success in detecting and apprehending offenders, with efforts spanning both new and pending cases.
“In 2024 alone, the IGI Airport Police have arrested approximately 57 agents from new cases and 51 from old cases,” highlighted a police spokesperson.
Additionally, the police have issued around 76 Look Out Circulars (LOCs) for agents who have fled abroad or are untraceable, marking a significant increase from previous years. This measure ensures their apprehension upon arrival or departure from India, reinforcing efforts to tackle international visa and passport fraud.
The police emphasized their commitment to resolving long-standing cases, including apprehending several Proclaimed Offenders (POs) from decade-old cases. These actions underscore their dedication to bringing perpetrators of fraudulent activities to justice.
Public awareness campaigns have been identified as crucial in preventing individuals from falling prey to deceptive agents promising opportunities abroad. Many victims unknowingly find themselves entangled in illegal immigration networks, often after significant financial investments through selling property or taking loans.
IGI Airport Police investigations have uncovered various fraudulent tactics, including the creation of counterfeit visas, forged passports, and manipulation of identity documents. Agents have been implicated in schemes involving illegal border crossings and impersonation, particularly targeting Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas.
“In 2024, specific arrests include cases of creating fake visas and facilitating illegal immigration routes, demonstrating the scope and complexity of these operations,” noted police officials.
The ongoing efforts by the IGI Airport Police underscore their proactive stance against visa and passport fraud, aiming to safeguard travelers and uphold the integrity of immigration processes in India.
