The unveiling of a revised design for a Zhuhai immigration and customs inspection station has sparked renewed discussions about the potential construction of an underwater passageway connecting the city with Macau.
The Zhuhai Bureau of Land and Resources has outlined plans for a sprawling facility spanning 20,000 square meters, situated opposite the Light Rapid Transit station in Barra. Although the proposal is currently open for public viewing pending approval, it notably includes provisions for the long-debated underwater pedestrian tunnel. This tunnel aims to significantly enhance connectivity between Zhuhai’s Inner Harbour district and Wanzhai, located in the Xiangzhou district.
Presently, ferry services remain the primary transportation mode, ferrying passengers between the two locations in approximately five to ten minutes.
