After completing high school in the village of Atigre, Maharashtra, I pursued a Bachelor in Business Administration from FLAME University, Pune, majoring in finance and minoring in economics. My passion for accounting led me to the MSc in Accounting, Governance & Financial Management at Sheffield University Management School.
The admission process at the University of Sheffield was straightforward. I consulted a counselor for guidance. The main documents required included my undergraduate degree and academic transcripts, a statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, and an English language test (I submitted my IELTS score). Most universities offer a direct application portal for postgraduate courses, simplifying the application process.
I chose Sheffield University for its industry-focused curriculum, which includes real-world case studies and hands-on projects, bridging the gap between theory and practice. Sheffield’s proximity to financial hubs like London presents numerous opportunities for graduates.
The city’s blend of green spaces and architectural diversity, both historical and modern, offers a unique living experience. Sheffield is culturally rich, friendly, and comparatively affordable, making it a student-friendly city. My decision to study here was influenced by both the course at the renowned University of Sheffield and the immeasurable exposure it offers.
Deciding on accommodation was a challenge. I reached out directly to providers and, after virtual tours, chose a place considering my budget and proximity to classes.
I have two part-time jobs at the Management School, both advertised through the university’s careers page.
Sheffield feels like home to me. Its green and welcoming environment, rich history and culture, and friendly locals make me feel at home every day.
In the UK, greater emphasis is placed on research skills, critical thinking, and independent learning. At the University of Sheffield, students are encouraged to engage in discussions, ask questions, and form their own opinions. The university employs various educational methods, including tutorials, seminars, and practical projects, creating an engaging learning environment that fosters reasoning, problem-solving, and effective communication skills.
Sheffield boasts cutting-edge labs, libraries, and technological resources to support students’ research and learning. These facilities provide access to state-of-the-art tools and a wealth of information, enabling students to thoroughly explore their subjects.
I am a member of the Indian Society, where we celebrate festivities and socialize at various events. Additionally, I participate in the Ceilidh and Zumba societies, offering fun and interactive ways to stay active and meet new people.
Exposure to diverse cultures and perspectives has taught me to foster a deeper understanding and view things from a broader perspective. I feel more independent, responsible for my choices, and open-minded to gaining as much experience and knowledge as possible. This journey has not only broadened my horizons but also made me more adaptable and appreciative of different cultures and viewpoints.
