Barrie teenager Max Nykoliation has been honored with the prestigious Queen’s University Chancellor Scholarship, recognizing his exceptional academic achievements, innovative thinking, and leadership qualities. Max, who will graduate from Maple Ridge Secondary School in Barrie, was selected as one of only 50 recipients across Canada for this esteemed award.
The Chancellor Scholarship, awarded to students who demonstrate superior academic ability and creative thinking, includes $48,000 in funding over four years. Max expressed his gratitude and surprise at being chosen from among more than 4,000 applicants nationwide.
“I’m incredibly honored to have been nominated and selected for this scholarship,” Max shared. “To me, this scholarship is the culmination of all my hard work and dedication across my life thus far. I’m beyond excited to begin this next chapter of my life and to embrace new challenges.”
Max intends to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, located in Kingston, Ontario.
Throughout his high school career, Max has maintained a stellar academic record with a consistent average above 95%. He has also participated in various extracurricular activities and initiatives, including an international student exchange program to Toulouse, France, and the Simcoe County Global Perspectives Program. His achievements also include receiving the Andrea Khanjin Award of Excellence and contributing significantly to community projects such as the Little Pantries Project to combat food insecurity.
Additionally, Max has been actively involved in sports, including cross-country, ultimate, basketball, and volleyball, showcasing his dedication both inside and outside the classroom. His leadership roles and contributions extend to serving as a junior aide to Barrie-Innisfil MP John Brassard and initiating social media campaigns for community welfare.
Max’s involvement in the inaugural graduating class of his high school has also allowed him to leave a lasting impact on school culture and activities.
Reflecting on his journey, Max expressed gratitude for the support he received from his teachers and peers at Maple Ridge Secondary School. “It has been a privilege to be a part of such an extraordinary school and community,” he noted.
