The Daytime Gardeners have awarded Sierra Ciak with their $500 Merit Scholarship Award. Ciak, a freshman at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, studying conservation biology, received the scholarship in recognition of her dedication and achievements in the field of biology.
During her time at Lyman Hall High School, Ciak immersed herself in wildlife biology, accumulating extensive experience in invasive plant removal, environmental cleanups, game camera usage, goose banding, and plant identification. Her passion for environmental science was further demonstrated when her team won first place at the state level in an environmental knowledge competition, leading to a gold ranking nationally.
Ciak’s commitment to environmental stewardship extended to collaboration with the Cheshire Pollinator Pathway group, where she conducted a project on pollinator surveying. This experience deepened her interest in pollinators, insects, and their habitats.
In recognition of her accomplishments, Ciak will present a program on her work with pollinators to the Daytime Gardeners on July 23 at the North Haven Recreation Center. The event, open to the public, will provide insights into her research and contributions to environmental conservation.
The Daytime Gardeners commend Ciak for her outstanding achievements and look forward to her continued contributions to the field of conservation biology.
