The prestigious Siemens Arts Program has bestowed upon Dayner Tafur-Díaz the esteemed Karajan-Akademie’s scholarship.
Hailing from Peru, Tafur-Díaz, a renowned conductor, is set to embark on a transformative two-year academy training program. As part of this esteemed endeavor, he will have the privilege of assisting Kirill Petrenko, the chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker, while also conducting a concert with the Karajan-Akademie Chamber Orchestra at the Chamber Music Hall of the Philharmonie Berlin.
The jury responsible for selecting Tafur-Díaz for this prestigious scholarship comprised prominent figures such as Andrea Zietzschmann, Simon Rössler, Stefan Dohr, Eva Tomasi, Prof. Dr. Stephan Frucht, and Stefan Schweigert.
Tafur-Díaz’s journey in music began as a trumpet player, and since settling in Germany in 2017, he has showcased remarkable talent and dedication. He has served as an assistant to conductor Knut Andreas, directing numerous ensembles and youth orchestras. His exceptional achievements include winning the German Conducting Award in October 2023, a distinction jointly presented by the WDR Symphony Orchestra, the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra, and the Ensemble and Internationales Opernstudio of the Cologne Opera.
His accolades extend further, with victories in prestigious competitions such as the International Opera Conducting Competition of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège in Belgium, and the conducting competition of the University of Almeria. Additionally, Tafur-Díaz’s talent has been recognized on an international stage, as evidenced by his selection as one of the 20 finalists for the 2023 Mahler Competition.
This scholarship marks another milestone in Tafur-Díaz’s illustrious career, underscoring his exceptional talent, dedication, and promise as a conductor on the global stage.
