The Pig Industry Scholarship Programme (PISP) is once again seeking participation from companies within the pig sector to provide year-long placements for students from Harper Adams University (HAU). Developed collaboratively by AHDB, the NPA, and HAU in 2012, PISP aims to foster the next generation of talent within the industry.
Recruitment is currently underway for companies interested in mentoring and employing students during the 2025/26 academic year. The deadline to express interest in participating is Monday, September 2nd.
Participating companies gain priority access to a pool of placement-seeking students from HAU. However, if a suitable candidate is not found, companies are not obligated to proceed. AHDB emphasizes that the programme is not only an excellent opportunity to invest in the future workforce but also serves as a means to showcase a company’s commitment to talent development.
The financial investment required for participation is highlighted as tax-deductible and can be as effective as advertising in national farming publications. Companies that have previously participated, such as Cranswick, attest to the positive impact of the programme. According to Cranswick, PISP students have consistently demonstrated enthusiasm and high performance, contributing effectively to various projects within the company.
Moreover, the programme offers students exposure to a wide range of opportunities within the pig and food industries. By being embedded within a company’s team and gaining exposure to various roles and responsibilities, students gain valuable insights and experiences that can shape their future career paths.
Overall, PISP serves as a mutually beneficial initiative, providing companies with access to emerging talent while offering students invaluable industry exposure and hands-on experience.
