Students in the local area have been recognized for their achievements in career and technical education through the 2024 Washington Award for Vocational Excellence scholarships. These scholarships, awarded to graduating seniors and community and technical college students statewide, include recipients from the Tri-Cities area.
Administered by the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board, this year’s awards provide financial support of up to $6,768 per year for a maximum of two years, tailored to cover tuition expenses based on the college attended by each recipient.
A panel comprising representatives from business, labor, and education sectors meticulously selected the scholarship winners, aiming to honor the outstanding career and technical education students in Washington.
Larry Brown, Co-Chair of the Workforce Board, emphasized the significance of these scholarships in facilitating access to quality employment opportunities for students while concurrently addressing the skilled workforce needs of employers. “WAVE creates new opportunities for Washington students studying a variety of professions and skilled trades,” Brown noted.
Funded by the Washington State Legislature, the WAVE initiative assists undergraduate students in covering tuition fees and related expenses at various institutions, including colleges, universities, and private career schools within the state, as detailed in a press release from the Workforce Board.
