The Endicott Performing Arts Center (EPAC) has announced the recipient of the 2024 Devin Spears Award. Graduating senior Ash Indelicato has been awarded a $500 scholarship to support their higher education in the arts.
Indelicato has been deeply involved in theater for approximately fourteen years, beginning their journey with EPAC by performing as the Ladybug in “Peter and the Wolf.” After graduating from Windsor High School this spring, Indelicato plans to attend Elmira College, majoring in Theater with a minor in either Legal Studies or Chemistry.
“I really like being able to bring joy to other people,” Indelicato told News34. “Being able to showcase a different story and having that touch other people means a lot to me… My favorite part is just connecting with people in the audience.”
Indelicato’s involvement with EPAC began through their sister’s participation in the center, an opportunity that has significantly impacted their life. “EPAC represents a great space for people to get introduced to and grow with theater,” Indelicato said. This past year, they performed in their favorite show with EPAC, “Ride the Cyclone,” forming lasting friendships during the production.
Looking ahead, Indelicato aspires to start an acting career in New York City and is thankful for the scholarship that will help them achieve this goal. “I realized I don’t think I could see myself doing anything else that isn’t performing… I felt like ‘No, this is what I need to do.’”
EPAC Artistic Director Patrick Foti expressed his pride in supporting young talent. “It is very gratifying to be able to help the young people of our community pursue their dreams,” Foti said. “It’s just another way that illustrates how community theater helps make our community a better place to live. Our heartiest congratulations go out to the recipient.”
The EPAC Devin Spears Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Devin Spears, a member of the EPAC Kids Theater Workshop and star of the 2001 production of “The Wiz.” Devin and her mother tragically died in 2002. Since its inception, the Devin Spears Memorial Scholarship has awarded over $48,500 in scholarships to help graduating seniors continue to pursue the arts.
