The Cowichan Musical Society invites aspiring performers, both on stage and behind the scenes, to apply for its inaugural scholarship program aimed at supporting young talents in the performing arts. President Irwin Killam announced the launch of the scholarship initiative, marking a significant milestone for the society.
“The scholarship program is a culmination of years of planning and community support,” stated Killam. “Our recent successful productions, including ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Shrek’, and ‘Matilda’, have enabled us to establish this program and give back to our community.”
Scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000 are available for post-secondary students up to the age of 29. To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate acceptance into an accredited performing arts program and possess a minimum of two years of experience either behind the scenes or performing in Cowichan Musical Society productions.
Applications for the CMS Scholarship are due by May 15th for the current year. Moving forward, submissions will be accepted annually from January to May, with award announcements scheduled for June. Recipients will be selected based on merit, including their contributions to the Cowichan Musical Society and its productions.
The society is already gearing up for its next production, ‘Legally Blonde, The Musical’, slated for the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre stage next year. Auditions are scheduled for May 25th at Adagé Dance Studio.
“We take pride in the achievements of our alumni, many of whom are pursuing careers in the performing arts or are already established professionals,” Killam remarked. “Our gratitude extends to our community and sponsors whose support enables us to continue our mission of nurturing talent and enriching our cultural landscape.”
