Banaras Hindu University’s (BHU) academic council convened on Tuesday and greenlit the proposal for 14 new merit-cum-means scholarships along with the introduction of a gold medal. Chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain, the council, in collaboration with its members, delved into discussions concerning academic and research activities, aiming to enhance overall performance and productivity. As a proactive measure, BHU’s council established a project monitoring unit dedicated to enhancing the academic and research ecosystem further.
Under the Pratidana initiative, BHU has received numerous donations, paving the way for the initiation of scholarships. Additionally, the council sanctioned the Akshaibar and Jogeshwari Giri Gold Medals to be awarded to a second-year MBA student with the highest CGPA, effective from the academic session 2023-24.
Prof. Jain articulated, “The unit will work to resolve issues that have the potential of adversely affecting the teaching-learning activities.” Furthermore, the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences are poised to gradually expand their scope of functioning.
The council also approved several other scholarships, including the Mahamana Malaviya Biotechnology Scholarship for a second-year MSc biotechnology student, the Biswanath and Meera Bhattacharya Scholarship for a second-year MA Sanskrit student, and the Jhingan Sahu Memorial Scholarship for a first-year MFA (textile design) student, among others.
Moreover, new programmes and courses are set to be added to the various affiliated colleges of the university. Arya Mahila PG College has been authorized to offer statistics, mathematics, and geography as minor courses, while Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya will provide statistics and mathematics as minor courses. Additionally, Vasanta College for Women, Rajghat, has been granted permission to commence the UG Diploma course in computer application.
In adherence to new guidelines outlined by the academic council, part-time diploma or certificate courses will only be accessible to regular UG and PG students of the university and affiliated colleges. Full-time diploma courses will entail minimum academic requirements, credits, and a specified number of course hours.
