In fiscal year 2023, the issuance of immigrant visas has continued its upward trajectory, surpassing pre-pandemic levels, as per recently released statistics from the State Department.
According to the Report of the Visa Office 2023, the State Department recorded a total of 562,976 immigrant visas issued, marking a notable increase of over 14% compared to the previous fiscal year’s total of 493,448. Following a steep decline in visa issuance during the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a steady rebound in each of the past two fiscal years.
Furthermore, the State Department had previously announced the issuance of nearly a record-breaking 10.4 million nonimmigrant visas in fiscal year 2023.
In an effort to provide further insights into visa-related matters, BAL Senior Counsel Tiffany Derentz will be hosting Julie Stufft, the State Department’s deputy assistant secretary for visa services, at a BAL Community event scheduled for tomorrow, March 19. The discussion aims to shed light on various topics including administrative processing, the domestic visa renewal pilot program, and other pertinent information regarding the future plans of the Visa Office for the ongoing year. The 45-minute discussion is scheduled to commence at 1 p.m. ET.
