LAREDO, Tex. – Immigration costs are poised to increase in just over two weeks, marking the first hike since 2016, particularly affecting some common forms.
The finalized rule, set to take effect this year, will see increased costs aimed at reducing backlog cases and implementing new processes, according to the agency.
Local immigration attorney, Norberto Cardenas, emphasizes the urgency, noting a significant surge in fees for several common forms.
“The most notable increase in the new fee chart is for adjustment of status,” Attorney Cardenas explains. “Currently priced at $1,725, this covers family petition, residency application, work permit, and advance parole. However, come April 1st, we’ll witness a steep rise to $3,640.”
These adjustments follow a year-long review process that incorporated public feedback.
