According to a report by Vietnam Net, Macao is considering streamlining visa procedures for Vietnamese nationals by introducing online applications and a visa-on-arrival scheme.
The state-backed portal revealed that Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng expressed readiness to welcome more tourists, laborers, and business people from Vietnam during a meeting with the Vietnamese consul general in Hong Kong and Macao, Pham Binh Dam.
Discussions between the two officials this week centered on enhancing two-way tourism and facilitating the influx of Vietnamese workers to Macao. They emphasized the cultural affinities and transportation connectivity between the regions, highlighting significant potential for further collaboration.
Vietnamese nationals constitute the second largest foreign community in Macao, following Filipinos, with approximately 7,800 Vietnamese non-resident workers in the Special Administrative Region (SAR).
During the meeting, Chief Executive Ho commended Vietnamese workers for their substantial contributions to Macao’s economy, praising them as highly skilled, diligent, adaptable, and proficient in languages.
Ho also expressed admiration for Vietnam’s post-pandemic recovery and acknowledged the country’s rapidly expanding economy, which has garnered interest from numerous business people and investors in Macao.
