Police have apprehended 17 illegal immigrants and rescued two teenagers suspected of being victims of labor exploitation at a factory processing electrical components in Teluk Panglima Garang, Kuala Langat, Selangor.
Principal Assistant Director SAC Soffian Santong from Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Division’s Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (Atipsom) 2007 Unit D3 confirmed that a police team conducted a raid on the factory at 12:45 PM today, rescuing the two teenagers from Myanmar, both aged 17.
The detained illegal immigrants, hailing from China, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, were found during the raid.
“Initial investigations revealed that the factory, operating for approximately 18 months, did not have proper licensing. Workers were reportedly paid between RM1,200 to RM1,300 per month,” stated Soffian.
He further explained that the workers’ movements were restricted, and they were compelled to work six days a week from 8 AM to 9 PM, with no permission to leave the premises.
Soffian disclosed that the two rescued teenagers and the detained illegal immigrants would be held at the Kuala Langat police headquarters for further investigations.
The case is set to be probed under Section 14 of the Atipsom Act 2007, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, Section 55B of the Immigration Act 1959/63, and Section 39(B) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
