The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi conducted an extensive visa processing event on Saturday, March 9, 2024, welcoming over 1,000 visitor visa applicants. Ambassador Garcetti actively participated in the event, collaborating with the Embassy team to facilitate the surge and assist in the fingerprint verification process.
Expressing the significance of fostering relationships between the United States and India, Ambassador Garcetti stated, “The foundation of our U.S.-India partnership relies on the network of relationships individuals form when they work, travel, and study in the United States. We are committed to streamlining the visa process and supporting vital people-to-people connections.” He emphasized the U.S. Mission in India’s efforts to address the unprecedented demand by augmenting staffing and leveraging technological advancements to process a higher volume of visas than ever before.
In 2023, the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in India set a new record by processing a remarkable 1.4 million U.S. visas. The demand spanned across all visa categories, marking a 60% surge in applications compared to 2022. Indians now constitute one-tenth of all U.S. visa applicants worldwide.
The event held on March 9 marked the commencement of the first of four planned “Super Saturday” visa processing events scheduled for 2024. Concurrently, Consulate Mumbai also initiated special visa processing hours on the same day.
