Students considering studying abroad have received counsel to seek expert advice, conduct thorough research, and make informed decisions before embarking on such academic endeavors.
Naz Panju, Director of British Canadian International Education Ltd (BCCIE), emphasized this during a media briefing in Lagos, underscoring the potential impact of misguided decisions on students’ finances and future prospects.
Panju highlighted recent policy reviews by the United Kingdom and Canadian governments concerning dependents, noting a potential surge in visa rejection rates. She cautioned that students applying independently might face significantly higher rejection rates, emphasizing the importance of seeking professional guidance.
“We are striving to assist our students because applying on their own could result in a very high rejection rate,” Panju stated. “Upon consulting with us, we provide tailored advice based on their preferences. For those considering bringing dependents, we recommend destinations like Australia or Canada.”
Addressing the financial aspect, Panju mentioned the challenges posed by fluctuating exchange rates, leading to students paying two to three times more for tuition fees. This heightened financial burden underscores the necessity for students to make well-informed decisions from the outset.
Panju urged students not to venture into studying abroad without proper assistance or thorough research. She emphasized the agency’s role in facilitating students’ applications to join their families through established channels, as well as offering alternative study destinations in Australia and Canada.
Highlighting the agency’s credibility, Panju noted that universities in Australia, Canada, and the UK have entrusted them with assisting prospective international students and streamlining the application processes.
