What Is the Easiest Way to Get PR in UK: A Complete Overview

Obtaining Permanent Residency (PR) in the UK can be a significant goal for many individuals seeking to settle in the country long-term. While there’s no single “easy” way to secure PR, there are several pathways available, each with its own set of requirements and considerations. In this guide, we’ll explore some of the pathways to PR in the UK, highlighting potential options that may be more straightforward or accessible for certain individuals.

1. Employment-Based Routes

For individuals already working in the UK or planning to do so, employment-based routes offer potential pathways to PR:

Skilled Worker Visa (formerly Tier 2 General): If you have a job offer from a UK employer with a valid Sponsor License, you may be eligible to apply for a Skilled Worker Visa. After residing in the UK for five continuous years on this visa (with no more than 180 days’ absence per year), you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), which is equivalent to PR.

Global Talent Visa: Exceptional individuals in specific fields such as science, engineering, humanities, digital technology, or arts and culture may qualify for the Global Talent Visa. After residing in the UK for either three or five years (depending on the eligibility criteria met), you can apply for ILR.

2. Family-Based Routes

Family-based routes provide options for individuals with close family members who are already settled in the UK:

Spouse or Partner Visa: If you’re married to or in a civil partnership with a British citizen or settled person, you may apply for a Spouse or Partner Visa. After residing in the UK for five continuous years on this visa, you can apply for ILR.

Family Reunion: Certain family members of British citizens or settled persons may be eligible to join them in the UK under family reunion provisions. After residing in the UK for five continuous years (with appropriate visas), you may be eligible to apply for ILR.

3. Investor and Entrepreneur Routes

For individuals with substantial financial resources or entrepreneurial aspirations, investor and entrepreneur routes offer potential paths to PR:

Investor Visa: High-net-worth individuals willing to invest a significant amount of money in the UK may qualify for an Investor Visa. After residing in the UK for five continuous years (with investments maintained), you can apply for ILR.

Innovator Visa: Entrepreneurs with innovative business ideas and endorsement from an approved endorsing body may apply for an Innovator Visa. After residing in the UK for three continuous years (meeting endorsement and business criteria), you can apply for ILR.

4. Ancestry Route

Individuals with a grandparent born in the UK may be eligible to apply for an Ancestry Visa, allowing them to live, work, and study in the UK. After residing in the UK for five continuous years on this visa, you can apply for ILR.

5. Long Residence

For individuals who have resided in the UK legally for an extended period, the Long Residence provision offers a potential route to ILR:

10-Year Continuous Residence: If you’ve lived in the UK legally for ten continuous years (with various visa types, including work, study, or family visas), you may be eligible to apply for ILR under the Long Residence provision.

Considerations and Advice

While exploring these pathways to PR, it’s essential to consider:

Immigration Rules: Familiarize yourself with the specific eligibility criteria, requirements, and restrictions associated with each visa category and route.

Legal Assistance: Consider seeking advice and guidance from immigration professionals or solicitors specializing in UK immigration law to navigate the complexities of the application process and ensure compliance with immigration rules.

Financial Planning: Be prepared to meet financial requirements associated with visa applications, including visa fees, maintenance funds, and potential healthcare surcharges.

While there’s no guaranteed “easy” route to PR in the UK, exploring the available pathways and identifying the most suitable option based on your circumstances and goals can help you navigate the immigration process with confidence and increase your chances of success in securing permanent residency in the UK.
