A Legend Airlines flight from Vatry airport in France, destined for Nicaragua and carrying 276 passengers, including 21 from Gujarat, landed back in Gujarat. The Gujarat State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has initiated interrogations due to concerns about potential involvement in an illegal immigration and human trafficking racket.
Passengers from districts like Banaskantha, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Anand, and Patan are under scrutiny. State CID teams are investigating the alleged racket, aiming to track down agents involved in facilitating travel from Gujarat to Nicaragua, with potential plans to enter the United States.
While district police are searching for approximately six Gujarati agents, the CID will question the 21 passengers. Superintendent of Police, CID, Sanjay Kharat, mentioned that the passengers, mostly from North Gujarat, will be interviewed to determine the purpose of their travel to Nicaragua and investigate suspected illegal immigration to the US or Canada. The CID will also examine the authenticity of travel documents and inquire about promises made by agents.
Additionally, a search was conducted in Mehsana district for Kiran Patel, a known operator in illegal immigration, whose name surfaced in connection with the flight. Patel, believed to be based in Ahmedabad, has remained untraceable since the flight’s grounding in France. The CID aims to gather evidence and book agents involved in the alleged scam.
