84 Lumber, the largest privately held supplier of building materials in the United States, is reinforcing its commitment to higher education by contributing $50,000 to the Germanna Guarantee Scholarship Program at Germanna Community College.
This donation adds to a longstanding tradition of support, dating back to at least 1999, where 84 Lumber has regularly contributed to Germanna Community College’s Germanna Guarantee Scholarship Program and various other initiatives aligned with the program’s goals. In tandem with this contribution, business partners Culpeper Wood Preservers and Jefferson Homebuilders are also providing a joint donation of $100,000.
Owner and CEO of 84 Lumber, Maggie Hardy, emphasized the transformative impact of this contribution on students and their families, stating, “This gift of opportunity will give hope to these students and their families. They’re the promise of America’s tomorrow.”
Germanna Community College’s Germanna Guarantee Scholarship Program, located across various counties including Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Culpeper, Orange, Madison, King George, and Caroline, has been supporting students in need of financial assistance for 29 years. In the past year alone, over 500 students received aid, with an average scholarship amount of $1,100 per student. Over its history, the Germanna Guarantee Scholarship Program has awarded more than $4 million in scholarships, benefitting over 5,000 students.
Bruce Davis, Special Assistant to the President at Germanna Community College, expressed gratitude for 84 Lumber’s generous contribution, recognizing its transformative nature. He highlighted the significance of eliminating economic barriers for students, allowing them to remain on track for graduation without financial constraints. This, in turn, contributes to the local economy by ensuring a steady influx of skilled individuals into the workforce.
