Five outstanding students of the University of the Nile who attained 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) have received special recognition scholarships and cash gifts from the university’s sponsors, including Zenith and ProvidusBank.
They are; Oluwabusayo Olawale Ifonjala, Bolaqis Muhammad Sani, Musa Adesegun Badaru, Abundance Abimbola Adejori and Anas Abubakar.
The development was contained in a statement by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Dilli Dogo, in Abuja.
According to him, a total of 1,251 students graduated at the 11th convocation of the school, out of which 84 were awarded First Class degrees, while 45 out of the 632 postgraduate students were awarded Doctor of Philosophy degrees.
The University also conferred honorary degrees on two distinguished individuals for their invaluable contributions to society. They were Dr Muhammadu Indimi, the Chief Executive Officer of Oriental Energy Resources Ltd and a renowned philanthropist, and Professor Isaac Adewole, a former Minister of Health and Professor of Medicine at the University of Ibadan.
Dogo said the institution remained committed to providing a conducive atmosphere for students to thrive academically, personally and socially.
He said the university was committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse community that values and respects everyone regardless of their background, beliefs and abilities.
He also attributed the university’s upward trajectory, which has seen it graduate more than 1,200 students this year compared to 800 in 2022, to its inclusion in the Honoris United Universities in 2020.
He said the Honoris network, which is the first and largest pan-African private higher education network, has enabled the university to benefit from significant investment in academic innovation, employability and student experience.
