Oman has suspended the issuance of all types of visas to Bangladeshi citizens until further notice, the Royal Oman Police said in a statement.
However, it did not mention the reason when it made the announcement on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday.
“The Royal Oman Police, as part of its review of the policies for obtaining some types of visas, announces the suspension of the conversion of all types of tourist and visitor visas to work visas for all nationalities coming to the Sultanate of Oman, as well as the issuance of all types of visas to Bangladeshi citizens, effective Tuesday, 31.10.2023 until further notice,” it said.
The decision came weeks after an official delegation from Oman visited Dhaka. Ambassador Dr Sulaiman Saud Al Jabri, head of the legal department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the visit from 11 to 14 October.
During the meeting with Foreign Minister Masud Bin Momen, the delegation expressed interest in signing two MoUs with Bangladesh, including one on combating illegal migration and human trafficking.
Bangladeshi nationals top the list of expatriate workers in Oman with a total of 703,840 individuals, followed by 530,242 Indians, according to a July report. The number has increased by more than 150,000 in the past year, according to news portal Arabian Stories.
