The British Council is calling for applications for the Study UK Alumni Awards 2024. The tenth edition of the British Council’s Study UK Alumni Awards will celebrate the achievements of UK alumni around the world.
The Study UK Alumni Awards will feature four categories to highlight outstanding achievement and impact in different fields. These are Science and Sustainability, Culture and Creativity, Social Action and Business and Innovation. Eligible applicants will have the opportunity to compete in both the global and national Alumni Awards.
Study UK Global Alumni Award winners will have the opportunity to raise their international profile, expand their professional networks and enrich their careers with a professional networking visit to the UK. The closing date for applications for the Study UK Alumni Awards is 22 October 2023.
A select number of countries, including India, will also host national ceremonies to honour their finalists, the British Council said.
The finalists and winners of the global Alumni Awards will be announced in 2024.
For many years, the British Council statement said, the UK has been one of the most popular study destinations for Indian students and there has been a significant increase in the number of students from India coming to the UK.
According to UK Home Office data, a total of 1,42,848 sponsored study visas were granted to Indians in the year ending June 2023, an increase of around 54% over the previous year, it added.
Last year, more than 1,200 applications were received from UK alumni living in nearly 100 countries. These applicants represented more than 120 higher education institutions across the UK.
Last year’s National Awards in India were presented to Abhinav Sinha, winner of the Science and Sustainability Award (University of Glasgow), Puja Changoiwala, winner of the Culture and Creativity Award (University of Westminster), Sugandha Yadav, winner of the Social Action Award (Durham University) and Saumya Singh, winner of the Business and Innovation Award (University of Manchester).
