The scheme, which will be in effect until 29 February 2024, aims to make it more convenient for both groups to travel to Thailand during the tourist season, which starts at the end of September.
From 25 September 2023 (Monday), Chinese and Kazakh tourists to Thailand will be granted a visa-free stay of up to 30 days under a tourist visa exemption scheme.
According to the Public Relations Department (PRD) of the Thai government, the scheme will be in effect until 29 February 2024 (Thursday). The PRD said the move was approved by the Cabinet on 13 September following a proposal by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The measure is aimed at making it more convenient for both groups of tourists to travel to Thailand during the tourist season, which starts at the end of September.
According to the MFA, the exemption also aims to promote Thailand’s tourism industry, which it reiterated is a key driver in stimulating the economy, in line with the government’s policy.
“Apart from boosting tourism, it will also help promote people-to-people links and strengthen bilateral relations with the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Kazakhstan.”
Statistics show that around 2mn Chinese and 100,000 Kazakh tourists visited Thailand from January to August 2023. The government expects 28 million international tourist arrivals this year, with tourism revenue reaching 2.38 billion baht.
